Blue Moon the Musical

Scene 1 – Love’s Light:

Instrumental

The curtain rises on a dark stage to show just the illuminated sign of the Blue Moon, a piano bar. The lights come up on half of the stage revealing storefronts along Willow Street. At the center of the street is the Blue Moon with a traffic light in front of it.

It is early morning right before sunrise. A star flickers above the Blue Moon. Anna is walking to work down the sidewalk. Smiling as she greets people along the way, Anna dances with some of them. She stops when she reaches the traffic light and the instrumental ends.

Anna (sings):

Walking down the street
Smiling at faces I meet
Searching for those two eyes
That when I look inside

I’ll see a soul at peace
The one who’s my missing piece
I’ll find the caring heart
Where I want all my days to start

Love’s light shine bright
Guide true love to me tonight
Love’s song ring strong
From the home where I belong

Instrumental

The lights dim on Anna’s side of the stage then they are brought up on the other half revealing Alec in a taxi. While he pretends to be beating on a drum, Alec is urging the driver to run through the traffic light. He is running late to catch his plane, Alec explains. The driver doesn’t hear him and slams the brakes. The light turns from yellow to red and the instrumental ends.

Alec (sings):

Traveling here and there
At night playing Solitaire
Wishing someday to see
Across the cards from me

Smiles by a soul to love
The one I always dream of
The heart who’s my best friend
Where I want every day to end

Love’s light shine bright
Guide true love to me tonight
Love’s song ring strong
From the home where I belong

Bridge Instrumental

The lights are brought up on Anna’s side and the stage is completely lit showing Anna on the street and Alec in the taxi at the traffic light. The flickering star above the Blue Moon light begins to glow a bright blue.


Spotlights of the star’s blue color shine on Anna and Alec. These spotlights start out faint but as the verses below are sung they reach the same bright blue color that the star was at the beginning of the verses. While the spotlights were getting brighter the star was getting dimmer as true love passes from the star to Anna and Alec. At the end of the verses the star flickers out.

The stage lights dim and the music fades as the scene ends with only the sign from the Blue Moon illuminated on the stage.
